Either way, I really loved the hoodie, the length. the bracelet sleeves, and most of all, I loved the versatility of the jacket. It’s something that I could easily throw over jeans and a tee or I could wear over a cute dress for a night out. I searched high and low for something similar but nothing really fit the bill until I came across this almost identical version over at Express.com.
They totally captured the same cool 70’s vibe of the original at less than half the cost! And I was able to find a 15% off coupon (use code 4655 at checkout) for Express which makes the coat an even more attractive buy at $150.80.
But If you can wait until 2/1 to buy this jacket in-store, use your Express Cash which will give you $25 off EVERY $50 you spend …making the coat a pretty little deal at only $75.80!
At this point I’m sure most of you already have your winter wears, but if you don’t, this would be a great addition to your closet and a fabulous way to up the luxe factor of any outfit!
I want to take a minute to highlight the newest addition to this blog, StyleCents.
Each week I receive countless coupons codes, promos, sale alerts, offers, etc… and I’m always conflicted about what to do with all that information! While I want to share the savings and spread the wealth, I don’t want to clutter the home page with coupon code after coupon code…IMO, there’s way more important things to post about!
So instead of posting a long list on the home page, I created a special page to house all of these great offers. Each week, I’ll go through all the sales and promotions for you and post the best deals in cyberspace! And as always, comments and suggestions are always welcome so if you have a better idea for sharing this info or if you have a special code you’d like to share, please let me know!
Not that you need more reasons to love Forever 21…
but what I love most about them is that they cover all their bases. Some stores are a little too heavy on the “going out” clothes, but whenever I walk into F21, I always take notice of how well each one of their “lifestyle” sections is stocked. They strike a nice balance between work and play clothes and for someone like me, who has a tendency to overshop for dressier items, this really helps.
Lately, I’ve really made an effort to even out my purchases so that if I buy one casual dress, I have to buy one dress that I can wear to work….and so forth. And while that might sound expensive, with all of these adorable options priced under $30 it makes shopping a whole lot easier and more affordable!
I’m not usually a fan of Orla Kiely… clothes or handbags for that matter. Something about wearing those prints on a bag or a dress feel a little too kitschy for me and they’re pretty pricey so I tend to avoid even looking at her stuff.
Well, Target has found a genius use for all her retro and vintage inspired prints…housewares! When cute pears, dainty dots and geometric flowers end up on an assortment of dishware, glassware, serving ware and on a slew of organizational items, count me in!
I’m not sure what the price points are yet, but you can usually count on Target for pretty inexpensive kitchen items. Look for the collection in stores the first week of February! Kitchen makeover anyone??
I’m guessing this is a new collection for the retailer, kind of like Twelve by Twleve?? The name is a little confusing but exciting at the same time…Shibuya is one of the most fashion-forward places on the planet and also happens to be the home of Tokyo’s newest fashion district so I’m hoping for some really unique and inspired pieces…at really affordable prices!
But the styling of this promo photo are sending me some mixed messages…a jean skirt and one of those crushed straw cowboy hats (that kind the Real Housewives of the OC looooooove) aren’t exactly fashionable.
So what do you think…what should we expect from this new collection?
I rarely buy a black pair of shoes. Sure I have the standard issue black pump (if you consider 4″ patent Sigerson Morrisons standard) and a pair of black “shoeties”, but my eye always always wanders towards color and texture when it comes to shoes…not to mention, I always like wearing the unexpected when it comes to footwear.
A few weeks ago, a pair of graphic black and white McQueen heels totally caught my eye and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I thought of all the items in my closet…skirts, dresses, jeans, even the dreaded black pant…that would greatly benefit from this shoe. So when I found this pair I clicked “add to cart” faster than you can say yes, please ….these are black, white, delicious and only $79.95 at Bakers.
And while I might have to hold off on wearing them for a few more months, these are totally worth waiting for!
If I were lucky enough to be at Sundance this weekend, this is one of the films I would be dying to see!
RJ Cutler’s documentary, The September Issue, is a real life “Devil Wears Prada” and was compiled from 300+ hours of footage he shot during his 8 months at Vogue. The film is said to have Anna Wintour’s seal of approval (some even say she’ll attend the Sundance premiere) but I have a feeling that since Cutler had final cut, Ms. Wintour might be in for a surprise…or at least I hope so!
I couldn’t post the video but you can click here to watch a preview of the film on Fashionologie.
The Sundance Film Festival officially kicked off yesterday, so I thought I’d have a look at some of the fashions- the good, the bad and the UGLY- from last year…
and as you can see from these pictures, celebrities + cold weather = bad fashion choices…so I’m sure we’ll have plenty of fashion don’ts to discuss over the next two weeks! And since my husband happens to be in Park City this weekend, I’m hoping he’ll get some candid/papparazzi style shots that I can post for your entertainment purposes!
On January 20th, it’s FREE make-up for everyone!!!
Because of a major lawsuit filed against department stores in California in 2003, stores like Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s are being forced to give away $175 million worth of beauty products nationwide, for free, to anybody who walks into their stores. Shoppers only get one item per cosmetic company, while supplies last.
And this isn’t the cheap stuff either…think Chanel, Christian Dior, Clarins, Lancome, etc. Participating stores include:
Saks Fifth Avenue
I was just a young child in the early 90’s, so I never actually owned a pair of Hammer pants…but I clearly remember doing the dance in my living room and knowing that my choreography would look that much better if I just had those damn pants!!
Well, thanks to Ralph Lauren and a slew of other designers, you can now own a much more sophisticated and expensive pair just like these.
And as with every fashion re-invention, the pants needed a fancy new name, so they’ve been coined “harem” pants, because no one would actually buy them if there were still “hammer” pants!
My initial reaction when Katie Holmes first wore these was YUK…but I think they might be growing on me and the amazing fantasy Safari styling from Ralph Lauren’s Spring ’09 show makes me want to run out and buy a pair of gold, glittery ones right now!
If you’re bold enough to try this look, find a pair that has some movement and that doesn’t have that horrible “drop crotch” like the originals… and as with most off- the- runway looks, it might also help if you’re built like Gisele!
I’m not totally sold on this trend yet, nor am I ready to spend any money on something that will surely be on the “out” list by the end of this season, so for now this pair from TwelvebyTwelve will do just fine!
Here’s beautiful Blake Lively on the cover of Vogue’s February issue…
and while she looks absolutely stunning doing her best rendition of old Hollywood glamour, I’m not quite sure why she’s on the cover. Now don’t freak out…I love Gossip Girl too…but her acting chops don’t quite cut it compared to past cover girls and her style is often questionable (like her ill fitting Golden Globes dress). But it’s like many readers have pointed out in my previous Vogue post, she’s hot right now, she’s young and she sells, well…hopefully. And it probably didn’t hurt that she just landed the cover of W Magazine (a fellow Conde Nast pub) back in December. Here’s more photos from the oh-so-cleverly titled “East Side Story” shot by the incredible Mario Testino:
…this is probably my favorite!
…rocking the jumpsuit which I know will be one of Spring’s hottest trends!
That does it…I’m totally buying an iPhone. I love my BlackBerry but this is just too good to pass up! I’ve been dreaming about this day since I watched Cher use that computer program to search for her perfect outfit in Clueless!!!
A new application (or “app” for all you existing iPhon-ers) called Pocket Closet turns your iPhone or iPod Touch into your personal wardrobe manager. It helps you organize the items in your closet, create outfits, search for items by name or when you last wore them, and you can use the handy built-in calendar to plan what you’re going to wear or review what you’ve worn in the past. That’s right, no more worrying about outfit repeats!
Need help deciding what you’re going to wear? Well, just give your iPhone a quick shake and Pocket Closet will suggest an outfit…and the best part, it only cost $.99 so click here to download!
But if you don’t have an iPhone or aren’t planning on buying one anytime soon, don’t fret. You can also take advantage of similar functions by downloading Dress Assistant for $19.95…it’s like having your own virtual closet right on your computer!
Let me start by saying that Nicole has looked nothing less than stellar since giving birth to her adorable tot Harlow (btw, it’s one of my favorite celebrity baby names)! I think the post-pregnancy weight did her body wonders and she has never looked better…she seems to finally feel comfortable in her own skin and has truly hit her style stride! I hope that one day very far away, when I finally decide to have a little of my very own, I can chase after him/her in 4″ Loubs as effortlessly as Nicole does!
But I digress, the point of this post is to highlight how easy (and inexpensive) it is to update a very basic look of jeans and a tee, by simply adding a bold dose of color. Her red pea coat takes her outfit from ordinary to extraordinary and you can’t ignore the well-strategized accessories which complete the entire look:
Chunky beanie, check
Fabulous round sunglasses, check
Balenciaga Le Dix bag, check
Louboutin Ron Ron pumps, check
And while it probably cost Nicole an extraordinary amount to appear this effortlessly chic, here’s a much more budget-friendly alternative to her winter look:
Leave it to Cameron to inject some much needed color and add an element of risk to the red carpet. Does anyone know if she still works with Rachel Zoe? Or did she put this together herself? Either way, she looks fantabulous in this Chanel dress and she’s sporting one of my picks for the hottest trends of Spring 2009: Asymetrical.
I totally love this shade of Barbie pink on her and the girl knows how to pick a silhouette that perfectly complements her body. Her tanned and toned shoulders/arms are the focus and rightfully so…how do I get my arms to look like that??? And while this look isn’t for everyone, I love that it’s different, modern and de-constructed. There’s something really fresh about it that was missing from many of tonight’s looks.
Her hair and make-up team also deserve a huge thank you tonight…her bold red lips perfectly complement her dress without overpowering it. I think it was a great color choice and it makes the whole look seem more grown up.
I also love her hair this color and the longer length is a much needed update. She usually has it much shorter and choppier, so I’m happy to see it styled down and in soft waves. I’m guessing the new long locks are thanks to some very expensive extensions, but if I were her, I would totally keep them!
She looks beautiful!
Most ladies in Hollywood hardly suffer from a bruised ego, but given the color choices tonight you would have thought otherwise. If they weren’t wearing white, Hollywood’s biggest actresses chose classic Black and various shades of Blue for tonight’s ceremony. I personally didn’t care for the brighter cobalt shades but I did like the rich Navy and dark Aubergines (that bordered on Navy) that stars like Hayden Panatierre chose.
I’m not usually a fan of Evan Rachel Wood, but her black dress is stunning and I love that she chose something with a very sleek and slim line. Anne Hathaway is one of my favorite leading ladies and I love the color of her dress, but in that silhouette, I prefer Amy Adams in her breath-taking Oscar de La Renta.
I was a little disappointed at the lack of color on the red carpet, but these beautiful white gowns more than make up for it. I think every woman secretly wants to re-live their wedding day and there’s no better way to do it that by wearing a floor length white gown!
Eva Mendes is by far my favorite overall look of the night…I think she looks absolutely stunning in that Dior dress and her turquoise collar necklace is the perfect accessory! She’s really stepped up her style game and I’m looking forward to seeing her on future red carpets!
The dress is gorgeous, but what happened to her hair?!?! It’s supposed to be a beautiful day in LA but Drew looks like she walked through a serious wind tunnel on her way down the red carpet!
Stay tuned for more on all of tonight’s fashion hits and misses from the 2009 Golden Globes!!
Carolina Herrera, one of my personal style icons and one of the best dressed women in the world, has some serious ‘splaing to do…
In a recent interview with The Times, Herrera said that “Long hair after 40 is out in my book as it looks too messy and too young. Women need to learn how to age gracefully.”
Um, who said anyone is “aging” at 40?!? Isn’t 40 the new 30? Come on Carolina, just because you chose to chop off your locks does not mean that the rest of us have to follow suit. I think long hair can look beautiful on woman in her 40’s and even into her 50’s…and by long hair I mean just past shoulder length, not down to your bum! It’s all about finding a sleek hair cut that works for your face and then making sure you maintain it well. As someone about to enter my 30’s who has has patiently been growing her hair for years, the idea of cutting it all off just because I turn a certain age is ridiculous.
Look at someone like French Vouge editrix, Carine Roitfeld…
the woman is 54 years old and doesn’t follow any of the fashion “rules” designed for women in their 50’s. She wears shorts, mini skirts, leather leggings, and sky-high heels all with an unadulterated, sexy, devil-may-care attitude and she can rock these bold fashions better than any 20- something I’ve ever seen! Regardless of what that woman wears, she oozes pure confidence with every fashion choice and in the words of Tim Gunn, “makes it work“!
Let me start by saying that I love a designer imposter, I mean interpretation, as much as anyone. I simply can’t afford to pay the kind of money Balenciaga, Chanel, and Marc Jacobs want to charge me for something and since I can often find it for a tenth of the cost, it just doesn’t make any sense. When I find designer inspired pieces that I think look good, are stylish and work, I frequently post them in my “Look for Less” items… as do many bloggers out there. But what I want to note in this post is that just because something may look like the designer original doesn’t mean you should automatically buy it or in this case, endorse it.
For example, take these shoes from Go Jane:
If they look familiar, it’s because this is their dumbed down version of the Louboutin Armadillo d’Orsay shoes I posted over Christmas. If you remember anything about the originals, they’re beautiful, elegant and look nothing like these. When it comes to finding designer copies, there are times (like this one) when you should look for the inspiration behind the item, instead of an exact replica. In this case, find a pair of electric blue heels that channel this same look…like these!
Everything that goes up on this blog has to pass my style test and ultimately, has to be something I’d actually wear….I would never post an item just becasue it cost $9.99!!
So trust your style instincts and learn to weed out the deal gems from all of the other garbage out there!
