Velvet Underground

The Holidays usually mean family, food, lights, trees, too many sweets and Velvet!  This time of year, you see a lot of dresses in this traditional winter fabric and while I’m not opposed to a velvet dress on my 2 year old niece, I don’t think it quite works for us grownups.

Instead, I suggest you look for Velvet details on clothing, like the waist band on this adorable skirt or on empire waist of this dress. It’s a great way to incorporate the best attributes of this fabric- shine and luxurious texture- without feeling like it’s just too much. However if you still want to try something in all Velvet, opt for a shrunken blazer or a vest in a dark, rich color like Chocolate or classic Black.

Shoes, handbags and jewelry also look great in Velvet and with accessories, you can get away with bolder, brighter colors!
